Tom Thornton

Staff Engineer

Tom was born in rural Southern Illinois, but grew up in Orofino, Idaho. The mountains imbued in Tom a deep love of the hunt and rugged outdoor pursuits, a passion that Tom holds to this day. After high school, Tom received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. While at USNA, Tom was a member of the Navy Rifle Team and the Trap & Skeet Team. Tom graduated from USNA in 1992 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and went on to serve six years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the Mine Warfare community. In 1998, Tom left the Navy to pursue a civilian career.

Having lived in many parts of the US thanks to his military and civilian assignments, Tom has remained engaged in the shooting sports wherever he goes. His competitive shooting background spans the disciplines of Smallbore 3P, Smallbore Rifle Metallic Silhouette, Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Highpower Rifle. Currently, Tom competes in IDPA, 3-Gun, Run-n-Gun Biathlons, and is an Instructor (IIT) for Project Appleseed.

Tom does have passions outside of the gun community. As a semi-retired endurance junkie, he is an Ironman Triathlete (2008) and has completed 30 marathons and 46 Ultramarathons. For a few years he was an avid scuba diver. Last but most important, Tom most values his relationship with Jesus Christ and spends a lot of his free time in prison ministry and on the mission field, both local and abroad.

Tom has been married to his beautiful wife, Lisa, since 1992. They have two very capable daughters who are right at home on the shooting range or in the field.
