How do I export a gun?
Most firearms can be exported through a license from the Department of Commerce. Other guns such as machine-guns and suppressors require a license from Department of State. TXMGO is an ITAR registered exporter.
How do I export ammunition?
Most sporting/hunting ammunition can be exported can be exported through a license from the Department of Commerce. Exporting armor piercing, tracer, incendiary, or large-caliber ammunition requires a license from Department of State. TXMGO is an ITAR exporter.
What firearms and firearm accessories are generally permanently exportable to civilian end-users?
What is generally not permanently exportable to civilian end-users?
Can Short-Barrel Rifles and Short-Barrel Shotguns be exported?
Yes, those are treated just like any other firearm for export, except there is a flat $50 fee to drop them from the ATF’s registry.
Can TXMGO export Defense Articles purchased from a 3rd party?
No. DDTC insists that the exporter be the same as the seller, so items such as suppressors must be purchased directly from TXMGO.
Can items which are not generally exportable to civilian end-users be temporarily exported?
Yes. Items such as machine-guns and grenade-launchers can be exported to qualified temporary end-users for purposes such as trade-shows, Research & Development or improvement.
Can TXMGO setup shipping?
Generally yes, except we are not always able to set up shipping for 1.1, 1.2, and 1.4 materials for international shipping.
Will the customer need a customs broker on the receiving side?
Most likely yes.
Can TXMGO set up the entry of the items to a foreign country?
Maybe. That is dependent upon many factors and we are not always able to set up entry.
Can a customer take an item being exported in their checked luggage or in a personal vehicle?
Yes. We can set it up for a customer to take an item with them out of the country without having to ship it. However firearms cannot be transferred at the airport for shipping and any domestic transfer would require a 4473 transfer from an FFL.
How long does an export license from BIS take?
Typically 45-60 days.
How long does an export license from DDTC take?
Typically 60-90 days.
Can an export license be used for multiple shipments?
Yes. An export license is a maximum amount that can be exported, not a requirement to export. Both BIS and DDTC export licenses are valid for 4 years. So the export license can be used for multiple shipments.
Once an item is exported, can it be resold to someone else?
That is dependent upon the manner in which it was exported and how the license was structured. However BIS and DDTC do place controls on the retransfer and reexport of their respective items.
